Italy Memoirs | Day IV

12.04.14

The second day in Florence and we literally saw the whole city, including outside the city walls which happened to be by accident, but oh well. I love this trip because we are seeing Italy for what it really is rather than what tourists know it to be. Today we walked in a humongous circle going to see all the beautiful things we originally saw from the lookout point yesterday.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is so huge it shadows the 5 streets around it, it is incredibly built and awe inspiring. We took so many pictures and wondered route for quite a while just seeing how beautiful Florence is, even the lesser known parts that we saw by chance.

After seeing piazza upon piazza we sat down on some steps for ages and some men came up to us and gave us a bracelet and some mini ornaments that came a long with ‘Hakuna Matata’, but not before asking us for money and so we just gave them all our spare coppers pretending it was all we had. We’re over the street con artists and we’ve stopped expecting people to be nicer than they are! We then walked across The Ponte Vecchio, full of beautiful and expensive jewellery with our 1euro rings on, ironically. It makes you feel as though we were transported back centuries because it was so atmospheric, so buzzing, so beautiful, and full of finery. We sat and watched the river wash by underneath us and had a little rest in the beautiful afternoon sun and headed off.

We attempted tot walk to a restaurant we planned to go to, but it was closed and so instead we stumbled exhausted, with blistered feet, to another restaurant which was so yummy - although I think we were both too tired to appreciate it.

Now I am shattered and my feet hurt so much so I’m off to bed before a day of travel tomorrow! Nunight! Xox
