It's safe to say, that on my first day wandering around Milan, before a job interview, I was justifiably overwhelmed by the effortless and perfectly styled women passing me by. I was lucky enough to have my boyfriends mum's wardrobe to help me out for the perfect little black (working) dress ensemble for an interview but I realised I stuck out like a sore thumb due to my un-sprightly pale legs and white blonde hair ducking and diving through the lunch hour crowds. Since then I have had my own little fashion revolution, I am slowly getting to grips with assimilating into Italian clothing culture whilst fiercely holding onto some British quirks like wearing flip flops out on a hot day even though it's not the beach and it's certainly not summer anymore.

Moving here has forced me to stop making lazy outfit choices on days where you just can't be bothered or are popping to the shops, which I love about it; and has also made me wish for an endless pool of euros or a personal ATM like The Queen - but nonetheless a girl can dream and make do with what she has. So in keeping with my theme here's my Milanese Autumn Wardrobe 2017 including some steady staples, muted tones, and newly realised essentials.

Casual Days

All these outfits are combinations chosen for easy wearing, that are effortless and comfortable. Although I love the idea of wearing heels everyday, and every hour, I'm naturally tall so don't love towering above the crowds; and having years of ballet wear and tear on my feet after a few hours I feel the toll! Below I've listed some 'formulas' for my perfect daytime outfits.

1+5+10+13+19 = Out for coffee, to the shops, running errands or a casual lunch. Throw the jacket over your shoulder on warmer days.

4+11+13+16+19 = On business, stuff documents in your 'hobo' bag, warm and stylish in muted tones.

10+13+17+20 = Supermarket and 'edgy', Sunday family lunches or walking the dog.

Evening Antics

For strolling around Milan in the evenings and heading out to restaurants for dinner, dressing 'up' a little bit more is fun and in my eyes essential for Milan.

2+5+6+9+14+19 = Throw on a thermal vest underneath for colder evenings, but a loose shirt makes the 'boyfriend' look and when done right can look just as stylish.

1+4+6+18+19+21 = A little ballet wrap can be flattering and simple, you don't look too dressy and you're still warm with a boucle jacket and a scarf.

3+5+6+12+14+20 = This has a girly flair while still maintaining a modern edge.

Dressy Days

Whether you're heading into town for a job interview or important meeting, want a more dressy look for a day out or just wishing to channel you're inner Aubrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday a little black dress is always the answer!

3+4+6+7+13 = This was my comfy and easy outfit for heading to Lake Como a few weekends ago although it can be styled up with some heels.

4+6+9+14+20 = An outfit for heading to work or meetings and after work for happy hour. 2+5+6+8+15 = A evening at an upmarket cocktail bar or an expensive restaurant or style down with flats for a work day.

All of these items in my Milanese Autumn wardrobe are pretty much part of a capsule, because they're all muted tones and simple styles they're easy to mix and match and can be suitable for any event or purpose. Some constants throughout the seasons go without saying though like a pair of comfy trainers for a day where you're going to walk a lot and a couple of pashminas/scarves. I hope you've enjoyed this post and keep your eyes open for my Milanese Winter wardrobe in December!
